Sixpence Lafayette, aka Laf, was bred at Colbeth's Sixpence Morgan Farm in Lancaster, NH. Laf was trained and shown by Richard MacKillop and later became the treasured mount for Richard's niece, Tracy.
Lafayette is one of those special horses who will go class after class and stay consistent. He excelled and wore the blue in 4-H, Morgan and Open English Pleasure, Road Hack and Saddleseat Equitation with Tracy up.
As time went on and Tracy competed with new horses, Lafayette also moved on to a new rider. Brittany Willey, the daughter of Tracy's cousin Lori and the late Joel Willey, started her show career on Lafayette. First came the Walk Trot Division and now they are regular competitors in the open divisions; pleasure and equitation.
In 2005, Lafayette introduced yet a third member of the family to the showring. Brittany's younger brother, Jakob, competed in the Leadline sections.
Laf can gently walk and trot with his precious young cargo, then step up to the plate and compete on the next level with Brittany. But put Tracy up there and the old light in the eyes sparkle and the feet fly. This old horse knows more about the showring than most humans.
Lafayette is the ideal family Morgan gelding as he has proved countless times over these many years. The MWVHSC has been fortunate to watch Lafayette and the MacKillop kids grow up. He is truly a treasure and we have chosen him as our MWVHSC Family Star.
