Spring 2008
Newsletter
Hello to All!   I hope that everyone has had a decent winter and that you are as
excited as I am to be getting rid of this white stuff.   Shortly, this will all be a fading
memory and we can get on with our horse activities.
It is now a fading memory!!
With temps in the 90s at our first show, the cold winter has now totally faded away.
Horse Shows

This year's class list has several new classes which I hope you will enjoy.  There are
added classes for the Mini/Pony exhibitor with a Jr. Exhibitor Mini/Pony Halter
class;  a Four and Under Halter class;  a Jr. Exhibitor Pleasure Class; a Schooling
Class; a Groom's class
(Congrats to our brave and courageous Dads) and a Color
Breed Championship.   Rules and specs for these classes can be found on our
Horse Show Program pages under New Classes.

Due to the popularity of the Pup and Pony class and the length of time it requires to
run it,  we have shortened the course and added in a time frame.  Both animals will
negotiate the course together.
This appeared to work well; classes moved right
along.

Arabians, Combination and Draft classes have been deleted.

Exhibitors will be issued a number for each horse and that number will be used for
the entire season.  Entries, however, will be accepted on a show by show basis.
Unless you are absolutely positive that you will be entering the same exact classes
for the entire season, DO NOT send them in for the four shows all at once.  While
this was supposed to make it easier, it in fact, was much harder due to exhibitors
changing their classes as they proceeded through the season.  Remember that a
signed blank check or cash payment must be left with the secretary prior to
entrance into your first class.   Send a copy of your horse's 2008 Rabies certificate
with your first entries or be prepared to show it at the booth at each show.  This is
per the NH Fair Assn.
Most folks left copies with us.  If you only showed us your
copy and didn't leave it with us, you will have to present it each time you show.

PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE CLASS NUMBERS TO ADJUST FOR THE
ADDED CLASSES BEFORE FILLING OUT YOUR ENTRY FORMS

We are still seeing a lot of  "scratchs and adds" to the original pre-entered horses
on show morning.  Please double check your pre-entries before sending them in.
The purpose of pre-entering is to take the strain off of the booth so the show can
start on time.  ALSO, once a horse or rider is scratched from a class, they are
marked
out of that class.   We had several cases of a scratched horse entering the
class, again, without an ADD slip.  These entries will be treated the same as any
other entry who went into the ring without an ADD slip which equals double entry
fees.   It is the same for those who enter a class (pre-entry or ADD slip) and then
doesn't show up.  They will be responsible for that entry fee regardless.   AND
please remember:

American Paint Horse Assn. PAC program

The MWVHSC (and WMRC) shows have been PAC approved by the American
Paint Horse Assn.  Exhibitors do not need to be members to enjoy this program,
but they must "enroll" their horses, receive their PAC card and have proof of
registration with them at any approved show for "credit's" to apply.   If any of our
exhibitors enroll in this program, bring the original PAC card and copy of your
horse's registration papers to the first of our shows you are competing at.  You will
also have, in your possession, copies of the forms which must be sent into the
American Paint Horse Assn. within 30 days of the competition.   These forms need
to be filled out, verified and sent in.   See me at each show (ncluding WMRC) for
the verification.   The APHA has also notified me that we now use the term Credits
instead of points.  These credits are applied to a Paint Horse's lifetime
achievement.  This program is not to be confused with the Open Competition
Program that APHA also offers.   Go to the American Paint Horse Assn. site,
programs, then PAC for more information.

The American Morgan Horse Assn. Open Comp. Award has also approved
our shows for 2008

Other News

There are quite a few new horses in our MWVHSC family stables this spring.

Peg Desautel's has a new Mini gelding, aka Chester who has joined stablemate
Minis, Midnight's Echo of Mickey  (Echo) and Flying Sparrow Top Banana (Cocoa).
Peg also has a new Quarter Horse gelding, Some Kinda Hot (aka Jasper), who is
being ridden by Peg's daughter-in-law, Cris Desautels and grandaughter, Katie.
Katie will also compete with one of Peg's Minis.   Peg, herself, is looking forward to
competing with her homebred Palomino and white Paint gelding, aka Cruzer.
Peg's filly (a full sister to Cruzer) is being offered for sale.

Shirley Smith's Paint mare, Splash of Romance, has foaled a beautiful chestnut
colt by Rainy Night Surprise (Rock Lawn Farm).   Shirley also has a new
Appaloosa gelding,  aka Jake.   Shirley and her grandsons, Daniel and Jadyn will
be showing, trailriding and parading their horses this year.

Rock Lawn Farm has started out the year with a bang.  Last year's champion mare,
Sunday Equinox has had a gorgeous black and white filly.  Sam'sgoingtoTexas has
just foaled what appears to be a tri-color grey, black and white colt.  Also, as
mentioned above, they have the chestnut colt out of Splash of Romance.   These
babies are sired by Rainy Night Surprise and Sunny's Mucho Amigo   and are for
sale.  There are many more foals coming throughout the year.    Daughter Emily has
a new Saddlebred mare and is doing well with her.  Rock Lawn Farm also has a
gorgeous new black and white Saddlebred stallion.  Emily will certainly have her
hands full with the Rock Lawn horses this summer.
Currently there are over 8 foals
on the ground.  Check our Horses for Sale page in Classifieds for photos.  Some of
you may of heard that Emily had gotten bitten, but we are happy to report that she is
doing great and is working her horses for the upcoming season.

Bryant Wheeler's Quarter Horse mare has also foaled a lovely chestnut filly.   Bryant
wrote that he has sold the mare and filly.

Cathy Williams Morgan mare, Ancan  Spirit of Chance, foaled a beautiful filly
on Mother's Day.  Cathy's Morgan stallion, Ancan Splash of Color is under
saddle and will be shown along with her new Pinto Saddlebred

Go to   Horses for Sale  to see some of the babies.

Angela Hooker, Val Pederson and Marilyn Hannah have recently sold Ghost
(Maine), Dani (Lunenburg, Vt.) and Ben (southern NH) respectively, to new homes.
Angela has purchased a new Mini;  Prairie Farm Climbing Star.  Marilyn has
also purchased a new sorrel mare.

I've received a letter from one of our competitors (of years ago) who will be
returning to our shows this summer.  The Grovers from Colebrook who competed
with their Appaloosa gelding, Plaudit's Red Prince, will be returning with new
horses, new people and our old and dear friend, Randy Whiting will be joining them.
We are looking forward to seeing the Grovers again.

Miss Samantha Wheeler of Milan has received the WMRC Scholarship for
2008.  Congrats to Samantha and we wish her well in college.

If anyone has news that they would like included in the newsletters, feel free to
forward the info to me.  I'd be more than happy to highlight your new horse, new foal
or farm news.

From the Booth

Please remember, even though the email address is  thinkblue@mwvhsc.com it
isn't just about the blue ribbons is it.   It's about sharing the love of our horses and
enjoying friendly competition.   It's about family and friends having a good time
while enjoying our common interest, the horses.   It's about learning, working
together and bettering performances while having fun.   It's where the problems of
the world, egos, arguments and unpleasantries are left outside the grounds.  It's
meant to be our little spotlight of relief away from the angry and often cruel outside
world.

Albeit, we are judged under the same rules and criteria, we are not the Nationals;
the sun will come up the next day and life will go on.   You are a unique group of
horse lovers from Northern New England, who I am very happy to say, I am very
proud of.   I have received many nice notes and emails from others outside our
MWVHSC families, who are very impressed with your friendliness, competence in
the ring and out and willingness to help.   I consider this to be one of the highest
compliments regarding the circuit and I thank you all for it.

We (the staff)I wish everyone a successful and safe season.  We  are looking
forward to seeing you all in June.

Be safe, God Bless and "think" blue
Sherrel

The May 4th driving clinic was well attended and everyone had a good time.  The
rain and mucky footing limited some of the hands on driving, but the overall clinic
was successful.   Thank yous go out to Peg and Andre for their hospitality and to
Echo, Coco and Chester for putting up with us.

The first show of this season is now history and also a "first show" record breaker.
I thank all of you for your support in making this show a success.  I'd also like to
extend special thanks to Jess Clough who stepped to the plate as our Ringmaster
and to Rick Miller for tending the gate.   Thanks also go out to Marcia, April, Charlie
&  Danny, without whom there would be no shows.  A big thank you to Mariam
Sawin for Judging.

The next show is on July 13th at the Fairgrounds.  Post entry date:  July 5th
